SUMMARY:How do we think? Let us count the ways.
DESCRIPTION:How do we think? Let us count the ways.\n\nYou would appre
ciate the discussion more if you have completed the survey at http://w
ww.enabling.org/drupal/ThinkingStyle\n\n\nA clever story will get us s
tarted and we can discuss the purposes of this talk.\n\nPurposes\n\nâ€
˘ To demonstrate the diversity of the conscious awareness of thinking\
n• To show how this diversity can be used in Education\n• To show
how this diversity can interact with the process of education and lead
to less than maximum performance and even learning disability\n\nVisu
al imagery is often taken for granted and we do not usually consider t
he diversity of the conscious experience. The first 6 questions of the
survey provide a starting point to explore this diversity.\n\nAuditor
y imagery is less studied but the questionnaire includes a wonderful d
emonstration of an individual difference factor that very few have eve
r considered.\n\nNow with those building blocks, take a look around in
your head and answer the question how do you think ? What is the cons
cious experience of your thought process? Words, pictures, sound? Some
thing different?\n\nWe will discuss how a simple learning task will cl
early demonstrate how we use the tools of thought.\n\nOnce we understa
nd how we think, we can look at how our students think.\n\nWe will app
ly this to questions like these:\n\n• Are learning styles important?
\n• Does verbal repetition learning work?\n• Eighty-five per cent
of learning disabled students think alike, while mainstream students s
plit evenly.\n• What are the actual deficits in reading disability?\
n\nI have started a forum located at to continue the discussion at htt
p://www.enabling.org/drupal/thinking\n\nThe talk will be held on Ellum
inate under the auspices of the Caribbean Education Network on August
28, 2010 at 7 PM EDT (NYC). To join the conference link to:\nhttp://ti
