Kristi,
I hope your school year has gotten off to a good start. My first grade class has gotten in the groove, now! My students of the week have been having a lot of fun creating voki's to put on our class wiki. It's pretty neat!
I showed the fruit machine to my staff and we used it for a staff pd event. It was a lot of fun and it was one more tool to get them excited about. We have started a PLC Professional Learning Community about tech integration.
Have you started your video recordings of lessons yet?

Hi Kristi,

I too teach kindergarten. Our school is currently using a wiki to organize information for our global studies program. This year each grade level has a country in Latin America. We use the wiki to post resources that we find on our country for other teachers in the school. Also each grade level will prepare a culminating project to post on the wiki. In the end it should be a good snapshot of everything we have done during the year.

I just read your comment about PD and the video idea sounds great! You might try embedding it in a wiki or blog. That way, as people used it, they would have a place to write comments, ideas, suggestions for other users, even after the class was over.

Kristi,
Wow, your project sounds ambitious! Best of luck with that. I agree that it is tough sometimes for us early elem teachers at PD days! Are your teachers open to being recorded?
Our eval process is a little different...2x a year principal eval until tenured then 1x every other year principal eval. For the off years you can choose self- or peer-eval. But everyone writes a PD plan every year no matter what. We have a rubric to pick ideas from; it's pretty static. This year I am going to try to work tech integration into mine. I have a much better understanding of it now!
I got awesome news today - with the help of my principal I wrote a tech grant and we are receiving The Flip video cameras for all of our 1st and 2nd grades (K will get them later). We are going to have the kids record and evaluate themselves for fluency. The teachers are going to love this!
Later! Jess

I work to integrate technology with grades K-5. Would you be interested in doing some type of collaborative WB 2.0 project with a class in PA?

Kristi,
I love the fruit machine! I bookmarked it and will share it with all my colleagues. They will love it! Thanks!

The social networking site I looked into was www.imbee.com. I liked it for the look and feel, but because kids can also make groups and connect with other people outside the class, I worried about what content they could get into that I don't control. There was one post about favorite TV shows that listed a lot of shows that aren't appropriate for the grade level. Also, there were a lot of music stars, etc. that I don't really promote.

I've been finding great Smart notebook files posted by teachers all over the Internet. I am amazed at the ways people are integrating this so young!

Let me know what you think if you check out imbee.

Take care,
Jess

Kristi -
Isn't Cabelas awesome? The shoes on my feet right now are from there! lol And TC cherries are the best!
I am really encouraged by your use of the Smartboard and podcasting in Kindergarten! I listened to your podcasts - they were great! I would like to podcast book reviews of some of our favorite books this year, but after listening to yours I think we could also podcast about some of our theme units as well. I also plan to kidnap the Smartboard (we will have one for our grade level this year) and utilize it more. I won an ipod about a month ago and am now a podcast listening addict. I just found the Smartboard podcast and am listening to it for more great ideas.
Have you considered any online communities for your class? I looked into one that was geared for elementary but I am just not sure it would be feasible (or allowable - parent issues?).
