One thing I remember about my life in elementary school is that teachers were fairly limited in the learning styles they catered to in their lessons. Daily lessons were fairly standard in the classroom; the teacher would write a concept on the board, explain it, and then assign a worksheet for the class to assess how well everyone understood the concept. Therefore, if a child was not a visual or an auditory learner, learning the concept would prove to be more difficult for that child. This is why I am excited about the new standards on technology being placed in the education system. With these resources, students who are hands-on learners will be able to grasp concepts in a way they are able to understand.

There are so many schools that use this standard way of educating students. It is very unfortunate, especially when there are students that learn better by tactile or other forms of learning. While most students will end up learning the material, they may not remember it as well as they potentially could or they may really struggle to learn it.

I agree that technology will be able to help us incorperate various types of learning styles. I think this is a great thing. But at the same time, I hope that teachers won't forget to help the kids learn outside of technology, in hands-on ways that they can engage with the physical world.

The part about this that worries me is that the students who are kinesthetic and concrete may need to actually feel things with their hands. Not move things on a screen. Technology remains a visual/auditory thing to me.

I let my high school students use computers very often in my classes and I really like it.

In my ESL grammar class, students can choose either study by themselves or listen to my lecture.

For those who (are at advanced level and) want to study by themselves, I upload some worksheets to our local network so that students can choose what they want to learn, download them and work on them by themselves.

For those who need help or explanation on English grammar (about 60% of the entire class), I will have a lecture in a traditional way.

For those who need some more extra explanation on certain grammatical issues, I sometimes gives students link to youtube videos or webpages that explain more about the English grammar so that students can go check and deepen their understanding.

Now computers and internet are indispensable for my class and students are really enjoying this style.
