I'd like to share a recent blog post that I wrote about an application called Nearpod.  It is similar to other apps on the iTunes app store and can replace the clickers that some teachers have been using to check in with students during a session.  It can be used online, too, for distance education.  If you are interested, here is the URL: http://iarumac.com/wordpress/?p=560

Mark - have you seen NearPod? I haven't tried it out yet, but was on a great webinar about it. Create a presentation and then students log in with the PIN for that presentation and the teacher iPad controls the presentation, with quizzes, slides, polls and videos. You can keep everyone on the same page and monitor who leaves the app! Best of all, it's free (up to 30 student iPad devices)

We have finished year one with our iPads and I have mixed emotions about the endeavor where on the one hand it is so awesome to have the technology but at the same time it is difficult to measure its effectiveness.  That being said there were alot of good things that came out of the program such as the ability to reduce paper use, research, and online coursework.  But you must be prepared to deal with the neverending distractions the device allows.  So quick are students to consume information in the form of funny pictures, cute animals, and videos that there needs to be some focus on good lesson planning, engaging lessons, and most of all how to do it without a ton of apps because you will have to buy them for all the devices, unless you want to break the law and let your students see you doing it.  Don't get me wrong, I think that tablets are the way to go in the classroom but there are many things you would want to consider.  I could be persuaded to speak to your teachers if you are doing this in your school but it would have to be during the summer and fit my schedule.  I could field questions as well just post here or email me at uncwmac@cfl.rr.com

Ok, I am really getting an iPad and will incorporate that into my 7th grade project based learning science classes. Yipeee!! I have been doing a lot of reserach, but would love to know some top apps from others' experiences.

There is some amazing apps to do with science, I'm a language teacher, but have seen some of the apps.  For astronomy, check out perhaps GoSkyWatch, its pretty amazing.

I teach 7th grade science and am looking for ideas anyone has used to incorporate the iPad. My units of study are: astronomy and space exploration, microorganisms, fungi and plants, robotics, motion forces and energy. Some project I include are: Community Gardening, NASA EarthKAM, then I end the year with a Rube Goldberg project. I do not have much expereince with iPads, but may be purchasing some for my class if I came come up with some applications to propose. Any and all ideas are appreciated!!!!

Lastly, my team wants to know applications for math, American history, Spanish, literature, and writing.
