If anyone here has been successful in downloading video from You tube, please share what program and converter you use.  I've been trying to use a Johnny Cash song in a movie I'm making in iMovie but but haven't been able to.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!  ~Jodi

There are a couple of options you can use.

The Firefox browser has several plug-ins that allow you to download a video from youtube.  The one I prefer is called Easy YouTube Video Downloader.

If you don't want to use Firefox, you can use Zamzar.com to convert download the video.  Copy the YouTube URL of the video you want to download into the first space then select the file type you want and enter your e-mail (they don't send spam or give your e-mail to anyone).  When the file is converted, Zamzar will send a link to your e-mail so you can go download the video to your computer.  Zamzar does have a 100MB file size limit for free conversions or a paid version for $7/month I think which allows you to convert up to 1GB.

Thank you, Greg!   I tried the Zamzar.com site and it worked like a charm! Free and easy!

I didn't even need to get a separate converter. I *really* appreciate your help! :)

i use the Firefox plug-in and it works like a champ.  Always a good idea to download any videos you plan to use in the classroom b4 the period you intend to use them  to avoid any internet connectivity issues during class time!  Don't forget to be aware of copyright issues when using songs etc. in videos. :)
So true... I started using youtube videos in my powerpoint presentations this past year and I just had the code embedded as a hyperlink. I had some connectivity issues like you mentioned... so this new way of downloading is SOOO much better. :) Thanks for your input!

I am taking a class this summer that goes over the copyright issues when using it for educational purposes. You would be amazed at how liberal video and audio usage is when involved in education. For the most part, teachers are free to use nearly any parts of the songs, but not necessarily the entire song. I would recommend looking into copyright and fair use for teachers.

There use to be a really cool tab that google had and all you had to do is put it on your book marks and click on the tab to download the video, but that quit working.

Now I use keepvid.com to download youtube videos.  I use youtube videos all the time for short clips in my classroom.

Thanks so much... I will try this site out, too!!
I use keep-tube.com when I want the actual video and I use vidtomp3.com when I only want the audio (or song) from youtube.
Good info.  I didn't even know there was a way to get just the audio!  So good to know! Thank you. :)

I use http://keepvid.com/.

It works great!  You choose the format.

Agreed. I've used this one the longest and most consistently.
