I'm in the process of setting up a new classroom blog. Last year my blog just shared classroom information with parents. This year I would like to have my students as contributors to the blog (able to comment and post). Although I let my students and parents know of blogging etiquette, use first name only, never connect a picture with a name I have few parents that do not want their children involved. My blog is also not searchable on a search engine. Any suggestions how I can talk to parents to lessen their concerns? Altough respectful of parents decisions I would all my students to have this opportunity.

No it seems easy enough to navigate. It gives you Teacher and Moderator permissions. It gives you 100 MB of storage and it is FREE! Thery do only have 2 theme styles currently. If you want other than than the two you need to know html code.

I've just set up kidblog accounts with my 5th graders - and they love it. It's easy for me to manage and approve posts and comments. We are looking to use it for "educational" purposes - writing for literature circles, science projects, creative writing etc...
I was able to have all my kids using the blog this year. Having the blog not searchable was important to some of my parents and one parent spent some time trying to find it and could not. As was suggested here I gave parents the choice of using a nickname or first name only for their child. I sent home a quick note, let them know what we will be doing and what name did they prefer for their child.
