I teach the Tech Team course here at Muscle Shoals High School. The course is basically a web design course that teaches students the basics of web design and development with the following programs: HTML coding, Frontpage, and Dreamweaver. We also look at Adobe Photoshop software to edit pictures. The course is a prerequisite to Web Page Staff so it is essential that they learn to work together as a team to complete tasks. For the assignment, I had students work together in pairs to create a web site with striaght HTML coding. The students were all allowed to ask questions among groups to enhance their sites and of course I was there for questions as well. I feel an addition of a program like Skype or the Sychroneyes Chat feature would have allowed them to put their questions in writing, which would have developed writing composition skills, as well as exposing them to technology that WILL be used in the future workforce. I have spoken with business leaders in the community that are already utilizing the Skype program to communicate more effectively and efficiently with corporate partners worldwide. I was very excited to know that we are once again on the cutting edge by learning about a technique that will give our students another advantage when competing in the business world.
