Skills to earn program for vulnerable women

1. Program Abstract

The Social and Economic Transformation for Rural Upliftment Nepal (SETUP NEPAL) in Bhaktapur, is seeking a grant with the objectives of helping and providing weaving and knitting training for women and young girls of low weak financial background of Bhaktapur district to enable women and young girls to start earning activities. The objectives of the program is that by the end of July the women and young girls will have at least double their chance to engage in earning activities and income generating activities by providing them skill based training. The training program will have ensured their engagement in weaving sweater, gloves and other woolen clothes.

2. Organizational Information
SETUP NEPAL was established with objectives of positively and constructively transforming the situation of women, children and marginalized group of the society by addressing the exiting socio-economic, environmental, human rights related, gender based and other right based issues and shortcomings to create the conducive environment for women empowerment and local economic development for a just, prosperous, peaceful, healthy and sustainable society for poverty reduction.
3. Statement of problem/ Need/ Situation Description

The SETUP-NEPAL has identified 32 women having weak family background in Bhaktapur District. They lack any support to have skills in order to engage in the earning activities. On the one hand they do not have sufficient land for agriculture production to feed the family and their family head especially are also unemployed. With no regular source of income their children are also facing problems to have education. Therefore these women were found to be very vulnerable.

In this training women and young girls will be qualified for weaving and knitting the sweater, gloves, muffler another winter clothes. As a consequence it is intended to support women to engage in earning activities broadening their engagement in earning activities.

6. Program Activities and Work plan

The training will be conducted in the second week of June for the women and young girls of Bageswory VDC (Village Development Committee). The Setup Nepal has already identified 32 vulnerable women and young girls who need this training. The program has been designed together Trainer from the Office of Cottage and Small Industries. The training will be conducted in SETUP-Nepal office premises for 30 days starting from the second week of July from 11 am to 4 pm everyday. In this training women and young girls are taught about how to move the needles and how to adjust colorful woolen threads, knowledge on selecting the appropriate size, techniques and other practice based activities.

5. Goals and Objectives

The Goals and Objectives of this training is to enable young girls and women to engage them in sewing and weaving, knitting activities with the help of training and capacity building as well enabling them in earning activities.

The main objective include
a) To provide women an opportunity to get training on weaving, knitting, and sewing.
b) To provide them Measurement skill
c) To teach them how to knit the gloves and sweaters and other clothes.
d) To enable them to engage in earning activities.

7. Outcomes/Impact of Activities

After the completion of the training women will learn to sew, knit and prepare different woolen clothes. The major outcomes will be that they will learn to start swing, knit and prepare the woolen clothes by themselves. After this training 20 of the participants out of 32 will get employment till the start of September .The major indirect outcome will be the increased self–confidence and self respect of women and young girls in the community and within households.

8. Impact Evaluation
The participants learning skills and their level of improvements will be continuously tested monitored and evaluated during the training. The training is practice based so it will be easy to identify the weak participant and immediate techniques will be provided by the trainer.

9. Impact monitoring and Evaluation
Impact of this training, its monitoring and evaluation will be carried out after September.
10. Coordination and Partnership
For the successful and output–oriented program implementation, new partnership and mutual coordination will be established with other organization that corresponds to the objective of this program.
