Technology tools are endless! There are a number of different strategies you can use to help promote education while incorporate competitions. I have created project for nearly all my chapter I teacher. For an example, I have my USI classes create a power point presentation on the Civil War. The students are required to have actual picture from the war. (Great way to learn how vital the internet can be) I general require the student to have at least 20 slides for the presentation. The student complete a thorough research to find the best pictures. Within thier presentation the students discuss important facts based on the images. This allows the student to use the knowledge they learn from the textbook as well as other research information. With this project I do not make it a competition but you can easy do so. For an example, you can have the student work as a class against another class or in small groups. They can choose the north or the south or even a battle!! To go even further with technology you can record the presentation and post it on a podcast for later uses as a review. From my experience the student really get into the project and love to add sound and animation. I hope this helps.

Alexis,
While blogging I came across this site that helps use technology. The link I have attached uses Microsoft Excel to create a timeline. It gives you the explaination as well as the template. It is easy to follow! Good Luck.
