Does any one know about how to present current events material

I am doing 2 lectures & having students do some kind of activity about current events. I was thinking about talking about soverignty & failed states, different players in international relations, organization they should know about and then having them do and activity with specific newspaper articles. Having them get into smaller groups with common themes, answers some questions, & tell the class about what they learned.

Anyone have suggestions?

there are not baselines really cuz its a new class but they do want students to "be aware of current events that will affect their lives." I already have articles for them from the new york times and the bbc news. they are all about international problems but maybe looking at a different type of news source would be cool. What are you refering to in Pakistan? fighting with India over Kashmir? as far as Mumbai, I only know ppl were killed by suicide boomers but not all the details.
