So we went to the computer lab today for 1/2 an hour and I gave them this assignment.

Visit http://www.scholastic.com/kids/stacks and check out any book or author page you'd like. Then write down at least FIVE new things you learned from visiting those pages.

The kids were like, "We can visit ANY author on this page?" and, "We can look at ANY book site on here?" and, "Really?"

Yes, really.

"We just have to write FIVE things down?"

Yup, five.

"Can we write MORE if we want to?"

Sure (said like SH-H-H-H-U-U-U-RE) if you really WANT to. (Evidence that I paid attention in my psych classes in college!)

Then the last five-ten minutes I allowed them to form groups of two or three and SHARE what they learned, showing each other things on the website.

They had fun, caught a little of the reading bug, and went a little further down the road to becoming life-long learners.

I LOVE days like these. :-)
