The Dec. 3 Conversations at The Carter Center event, "Restoring Rights and Rules: A New Human Rights Agenda for the United States," will be webcast live at 7 p.m. ET. The panel discussion will focus on the U.S. human rights record, which has been greatly tarnished by Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib, and other events during recent years.

Join former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Egyptian human rights defender Saad Ibrahim, Executive Director of Amnesty International USA Larry Cox, and Chairperson of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission Sima Samar as they discuss how the next administration can restore the reputation of the United States on human rights.

The event will be moderated by Karin Ryan, director of the Carter Center's Human Rights Program.

This Conversations event follows a two-day human rights defenders forum, hosted Dec. 2-3 by The Carter Center, including frontline human rights advocates from around the world. Read more about the forum.

Conversations at The Carter Center is an annual series featuring experts and newsmakers who discuss current global peace and health topics, with questions from the audience or webcast viewers. View the 2008-2009 Conversations schedule.
