Here goes! This is my first attempt at blogging.
Background first. I have been teaching since 1991. At Easter in 1998 I got the opportunity to come out of the classroom and work with the parents in my area. So for more than 10 years that's what I have been doing and I loved it. Unfortunately, due to the economic downturn, that position has been taken from my schools and I am going back to the classroom.
In Sept I will be teaching 11/12 year olds. Initially I hated the idea but now I am both terrified and excited. When I left the classroom, I was teaching 6/7 year olds so this is an extra change. I decided the best way to get ready was to prepare really well. I started reading books on active learning and creative teaching, I searched on line for anything related to education.
I learned loads and then I discovered technology for the classroom. When I left the classroom it was still the 20th century but things have moved on so much since then. Now I am completely confused! There is so much out there I don't know where to start. There are so many different projects for working in collaboration, so many ways for putting the children's work on line and so many tools that can be used in the classroom. I am afraid that I'll over use them, not use them properly or that I'll use them for the sake of it with no real benefit to the children or the lesson.
I really need to take what I have learned and work out how to use it practically. Some of the advice I got included reflecting on things by blogging. That's kind of what I'm trying to do here.
