Just a random question maybe someone can take 10 seconds and answer.

I am starting my first 2.0 project, and my 4th grade students will be recording themselves reading poetry. I am going to use Microsoft Photostory to add some images. Is Flickr a safe place to get images? It seems like we could download from their creative commons section. From my own browsing, there doesn't seem to be any content that is inappropriate, but I want to be sure. I don't want to mess up my first project!

Thanks for your time!

Hi,

Flickr is relatively safe, however, you can come across some "interesting" content that would not be suitable for elementary students. Just be careful what search terms are being used.

You could also try:

Getty Images has a lot of royalty free images that you can use. I have teachers who have used Flickr, but we always tell them to use with caution. You never know when something inappropriate will appear.

Here is one more link to look at:

I think I have more image library info at my office. I will upload those URL's when I get a moment. Exciting that you are using Photostory!!! www.freeplaymusic.com has some music files that you can upload as backgrounds....

NO! I love, love Flickr and use it all the time with my high school kids, but even pretty innocuous terms can get you racy pics if you're letting them search. You could try veer (http://www.veer.com/) which has photos, illustration, and a little video.
