Week 8-Activity 3: Blogging About Google Apps

I feel like a broken record in that every blogging assignment doesn't really apply to me.  My teaching experience is non-traditional and so as a result I don't really use anything we are learning in this class at work.  One of the questions was "How could Google Apps enhance collaboration between you, parents and students?"  This question I can give an answer to.  I developed a blog for the music class I teach and I used Google Apps to do it.  On this blog, I am hoping that my students will…

Week 7, Activity 4: Experiencing Free/Open Source Courses

When starting this assignment, I really couldn't find any source courses that interested me, but then I tried another search and found an Autism course.  I love students with autism and someday I intend to be highly qualified in Autism.

This course was different than any others I looked at.  It was shorter and I wasn't watching a video, I was reading.  Upon completion of the course I got to download/print a certificate of completion.  The class was titled Autism 101 and taught all…

Week 4, Activity 7: Social Networking and Digital Citizenship

Before this week's lesson, when someone mentioned Social Networking, I always thought of Facebook.  I knew that Twitter and My Space were also Social Networking sites, but other than these three sites, I didn't know there were anymore social networking sites.

Through the course of this week's topic, I learned that social networking is everywhere.   Social Networking actually shows up in many different ways.  For example, Linked In is a social networking site for business contacts.…

Virtual Reality Week 5

There were a list of questions and this is the one I chose.

Do virtual worlds give students a better learning experience than real world experiences?

I don't think that virtual worlds give students a "better" learning experience than the real world, but maybe a different experience.  I work in a unique educational environment.  I take students that are 18-21 years old, who have special needs, into the community and teach them job skills.  Every…

AUP Cherry Creek Schools

When I searched the Cherry Creek School District webpage for their Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), I didn't find one.  CCSD calls it an Acceptable Use Agreement (AUA) and they don't just have one, they have a lot.  CCSD feels the need to have AUA's specialized to each department.  For the purpose of this assignment, I have gone ahead and just chosen one of the many AUA's to focus on.

The AUA I have chosen is the one for the teachers.  Currently, I am not a teacher, I'm a para-educator,…

Blog Week 2: Bloom and Marzano

The assignment for my class asked these three questions:

  • How will your knowledge about Bloom's taxonomy and Marzano's research affect your lesson planning?
  • Are you currently implementing these concepts? If so, how could you improve or change them to be more effective? If not, what is your plan to begin implementing them?
  • How could you share your new information with your colleagues to possibly enhance their teaching practice? What is the most…
