I just received notice that my Writers' Gallery is online. The name is Morro Rock Writers' Gallery and I am very excited. I hope to get the entire community involved.
I have already started applying some of the ideas from the Boston workshop to Moodle assignments. The Forum works well as a blog. I will use the idea you gave us for vocabulary (could you tell me the creator's name , please), as a wiki assignment or, as a glossary assignment.
Also, Barnes and Noble has an offer for a free e-reader to download. Along with it are six free books--you have to take what they give you, but except for the dictionary, I received Pride and Prejudice, Last of the Mohicans, Sense and Sensibility, Dracula, and Little Women. Most of the boks range from $4.99-$9.99. I like to write in the book I am reading so I didn't think I would like the e-book route but they are very readable and user friendly. I thought I should see what the online reading experience is all about as it seems that may be the way schools are headed and I didn't want to go the Kindle route.
Loved your blogs on your summer travels. Joanne
Our Brainyflix video contest just ended, and I wanted to thank you for helping us get the word out. We got 800 submissions from across the country!
That said, MIT was really happy with the results and will let us run another contest, so we're going for it! But this time, we're gonna have kids create Brainypics flashcards - which are images and sentences paired up with a one of our SAT/ACT words. The contest ends May 22nd, and there'll be iTunes and a cash prize like last time. To boot, we'll double the payout if the kids can hit a certain goal. More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules.
Do you mind passing my message along to students and your HS colleagues again?
Thanks,
Jack
The program in Maine has been a model for the rest of us. How did Maine handle it when the student laptops needed new batteries? Was it up to the students to replace them?
I teach in Maine and all 7th and 8th grade students were issued an apple ibook. We are in the 5th year of the program and I love it.
