During my degree, it was really inspiring when we had visiting artists and industry professionals. This gave us an idea of the real world and the industry, and what we could expect in terms of experience and qualifications. It was even…"
"You can't make a student learn. I think you can only put the conditions in place and show them the way. Motivation is a very emotional and sensitive being and is everchanging. One week the student might be really up for it but the next just not…"
"As Andrea said having a successful artist as an art teacher would be a great advantage since this person become more like a facilitator rather than an instructor and is not so much about the use of techniques or teaching methods. It is an attitude…"
"So I think we can! :) if we make learning interesting then it would appeal to students curiosity and it is an obvious point that students will be motivated. But how can we make learning like this? Some teachers have a natural talent…"
"As teachers it is our job to make sure that our session plans are created to cover many aspects and one of those being to make the lesson fun and interesting as possible
The advantage of FE is that the learners have chosen to study the course,…"
"We can't. We can simply provide the platform and a selection of information from which they can pick and choose. And, if that platform is interesting enough, they will want to return... Curiosity is what we have to…"
I agree with Anita it is our job as teachers to make the subject engaging and interesting to all students. I believe that if you are enthusiastic and passionate in the way that you present the subject, learners will pick up on this and in…"
"Learning is not something done to students but something students do to themselves. Yes I agree with you Andrea that understanding the students can help with encouraging them and also help students to realise that they must teach themselves with…"
"To be convinced of the purpose of learning, learners must look at the world outside their school or college.Trips, visits, visitors and work experience can all contribute towards students' learning thus make it relevant and purposeful."
"Some mature students want qualifications for a career and this is a long-term goal for them but very often teachers have to deal with older learners who do not see the point of working for qualifications. Without a long term aim for their…"
"I find that within private one-to-one tutorials students are able to express what their concerns are, what they hope to achieve on the course, their interests and difficulties. This gives the teacher a clearer image of who their students actually…"
"Yeah I'd agree Ann, within my own learning I want to know if what I'm learning is going to benefit me for my future goals, 'what's the point' of doing this. It can help to know what students goals are and then when teaching…"
"I agree with you Anita. I have several older students in my numeracy class. They have often had bad experiences from their schooling days and are reluctant to take risks for fear of failure or exposure. I try to make the class environment very safe…"
"A recent book I have been reading "Essential Motivation in the Classroom" by Ian Gilbert, suggested a really good approach to motivation, and its asking the question "What's in it for me?" The author suggests…"
Hi! I am the PGCE student and I would like to share some thoughts about Education today!
I have studied in Poland at the University of Zielona Gora and finished my education with Master Degree in Social and Cultural Animation with additional specialisation in Art Photography.
have chosen to study a Postgraduate Certificate in Education because I would really like to develop my teaching skills and work as a Teacher in the near future.
Studying art and a broad spectrum of subjects connected with visual structures and also pedagogy, philosophy and psychology, which included development of a child, drew me into teaching.
I have been taking artistic photographs since 1998. In 2000 I had my first exihibition of my photographs in the BWA – city art gallery in Zielona Gora, Poland. In 2002 I had an exhibition in the University of Zielona Gora and another one in 2004 in the ‘4 Roses for Lucien’ gallery. I moved to UK in 2004 and have lived in Colchester since then.
I have been working as a freelancer photographer since 2002. In 2007 and in 2008 I had photography workshops project with the second year students in the Sixth Form College in Colchester.
Three years ago I joined ICON – an organization from Colchester which organize women interested in photography.
Two years I also attended a course in London Academy of Media Film and Tv to improve my IT skills in Photoshop programme, which I think taught me to be more professional and deliver photography in a more creative way. In October 2008 I had an exhibition at Life Cafe Gallery in Colchester, in February 2010 an exhibition of Art photographs at Les Livres Gallery and in July 2010 an exhibition at bistro,The Minories Gallery in Colchester.
