As part of your research in media literacy I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's web based power point presentation platform.
I would highly recommend Capella's PhD program. It was both challenging and rewarding. As with most online programs, the program is what you make of it. I have heard people complain and bash the program and I have heard people praise the program. To me, online programs are more rigorous than traditional schools. With Capella, learners need to be motivated and driven. I started thinking about my dissertation topic from day one. During my first colloquium (one week retreat), I met a professor that I connected with. It was my goal to have that professor as my mentor. With some determination and luck....she did chair my committee. It took me about three to finish the program. On the negative side, I had a really horrible professor for School Law. He was rude and obnoxious to everyone in the class. Also, I had to "fire" one of my committee members. My original committee member left the school and she was put on as a replacement. For two months, my mentor and other committee member fought with her to approve things. We would change things to fit her needs and she would change her mind again. Finally, my mentor advised me to request a change. As luck would have it, my original committee member returned to the school at just the right time. And the story has a happy ending....

Nick, over in another discussion strand started by Steve Hargadon there has been talk about the future of Classroom 2.0. I mentioned wanting to see a media literacy Ning -- little did I know a group already existed right here within Classroom 2.0! I would like to discuss this group with you in more detail, especially how to involve more folks in the field of media ed. Drop me a line!
