One of the ways to monitor blogs easily, is to create an RSS feed for each of their blogs using Feedburner and then also create a Feed aggregator, such as Netvibes.com to monitor their feeds. We will be learning how do to some of this on Monday.

Time is a major factor; I think we will get better at managing our blogs and wikis. Several of the blogs that I frequent seem almost led by students. They take so much pride in being heard.

Great idea April! Usually the kids bring in insects that are still squirming on their pins or bugs that have been half eaten. Lori could require some of the PhotoStory pictures to be local insects and then other pictures to be insects from other…

In reply to Lori- I would have students take a picture of the insects and identify them by scientific name in photostory instead of the bringing in the big ole' bug collection. :)

Weather and War Project

My students just finished their weather and war project. They worked in groups of three to create a visual presentation about how weather affects war. Each student had one of the following roles: mapmaker, weapons researcher, and weather reporter. I loved bringing in two guest speakers. The kids especially enjoyed learning about the Vietnam War. I allowed the students to choose how they presented their information. Some chose SmartNotebook and others chose PowerPoint. I was surprised that no…See More

Howard Gardner "The Five Minds for the Future" article

I read the article 'The Five Minds for the Future" by Howard Gardner. The mind that I most closely associated with in relation to my classroom is the "creating" mind. I am constantly seeking out new ways to improve my classroom instruction. I used a "layered curriculum" in my classroom which is based on research by Dr. Kathie Nunley. (help4teachers.com) The curriculum was not a conventional approach to instruction because it allowed the students to choose activities they wanted to complete and… Continue

The Networked Student

I watched the Networked Student on youtube a few minutes ago. I had seen it twice before but I am really eager to create 21st century student learning in my classroom. They are not the hold up! I am. I have the interest, it is mainly finding the time to figure out how to connect the kids and then implement it in my classroom. One of my main concerns is monitoring their progress. Where do I find the time to check their blogs, wikis etc.? I can see where their learning could really take off when… Continue

Kathy, check out our Clean Watersheds project. Do you have your students collect water quality data for the river in Muscle Shoals? We would love it if you would share your data.
