About Me
I graduated from UMBC in 1995 with a BS in Math, a minor in Physics, and a certificate in Secondary Education. Since then, I have been teaching math and science in private schools, home school co-ops, private tutoring, and home schooling my own kids. I have been eagerly awaiting the day that my kids are all old enough for me to go back to school myself, and THIS IS THE YEAR!! I decided that I want to get a Masters in Liberal Arts to see what the rest of the world is like, outside of math and science. As I selected classes for Summer 2014, I kept gravitating toward the education courses and the STEM courses. So I am now enrolled in a Secondary Education program. I am also taking Distance Education courses at UMUC. We will see where this takes me, God willing!
I am specifically interested in the MDE because of the course that I took over the summer: Technology in the STEM classroom. I found that I was not familiar with very many of the required softwares at all, so much so that I had to catch up to all the other students in the class on a level of prior knowledge before I could even learn the course material! Yet in my 20 years of teaching/tutoring, I had thought I was including e-learning at a rate that was comparable to the average American teacher. So I decided to study the software involved in "technology in the classroom" in greater detail so that I can be comfortable using it in the future.
Outside of school, I am busy with a house full of young children. My cousin and I care for 6 kids ages 7 and under. I also have a teenage son who decidedly does not help babysit, though he does clean the kitchen for me every night as we get the kids ready for bed. I like the outdoors, especially riding horses, but I don't get much time for that now.
