I'm amazed you got the parents of all 16 kids to agree to have their work published online, that the students edited their work more than they would have had it been written work, got globally reviewed, and that you're getting them to take charge of their own learning. One of my concerns is teaching grammar and writing using web 2.0 tools. I haven't been able to figure out how to get students to read, and understand a grammar lesson on their own, ask questions if they have any and then do an assignment so I can assess their learning. Writing, on the other hand, I've come up with a few tools but haven't used them yet. I find myself conferencing ALOT with my students on their essays and compositions. I want to reduce the time it takes me to do that by letting them get peer reviewed on something like preppa.com but I just checked out the website and it dosen't look very active. Any idea on how I can use web 2.0 tools to teach grammar and writing?

I haven't looked here in quite a while, so I'm sorry for my delayed response. I've used Google Apps (forms) for surveys for anticipatory sets in reading. Denise, I started using Google Apps because my school district has switched to it and I volunteered to pilot the program. I'm not a Google Certified Teacher, but I work a lot with a colleague who is a GCT and I'm plan to apply again.

Kamisah, I'm curious to know what grade level you teach. I'd love to collaborate on a writing project if you were interested.

How do you use Google Apps to teach writing and reading? I am quite interested in learning more about Google Apps. I have used Google Docs to get my kids to do comprehension exercises. Btw, I teach English in Singapore.

I am always trying to encourage members of the English Department to try different approaches to make content accessible to the ELLs in their mainstream classes. Some are more than willing to give it a go while others think that nothing takes the place of the BOOK.

How can I get the more reticent teachers to enter the 21st century? I thought www.readwritethink.org would be an easy sell, but it was a no go (I will be presenting on this site in CABE next week in San Jose, CA).

Can anyone help me find a sugar-coated "pill" to help my English staff members?
