I've used skype and it is a good way to chat. You can hook up a web cam and have a video chat or you can just instant message. What are you looking to use it for?
Something easy, maybe a video conference with a museum or virtual field trip.
I had a Skype video conversation with a class a couple of weeks ago. I live on Canada's east coast, which was being studied by a class in Canada's prairies. Those Grade 5 students asked my Grade 6/7 students questions about marine life, jobs, fishing, and so on. It was a very neat conversation on both ends.

Perhaps this prompts some other ideas in your head about possible uses for your situation.
Skype is free. I have a course in the history of art and architecture at ahaafoundation.org

Check it out and let me know if any of the micro lessons is a fit for your class. I can Skype in and teach a lesson.

Or call me I am in Hawaii and my number is (808) 941-4242
