If you are looking for a fun idea, the Brian Lehrer Show (WYNC) is inviting listeners to write a collaborative State of the Union speech. The timing is tight, but it would be fun challenge for students to capture the historical tone and message that this particular speech needs to achieve - along with understanding both the accomplishments and challenges from the past year. Also, it's nice to incorporate students in an applied project like this one, since Brian will be discussing the final product on the radio.
