"The task of cultivating minds" (Gardner's phrase, from Five Minds) is our constant endeavor, our lifework.

We must "become reflective practitioners." (from Barth's Learning by Heart)

"Our challenge and opportunity, then, is to foster an entrepreneurial spirit towards creating new learning environments--a spirit that will use the unique capabilities of the Web to leverage the natural ways that humans learn." (from John Seely Brown's "Growing Up Digital")

Not a Gardner read, because he cannot write fast enough for me, but check out this new book...
iBrain:SURVIVING THE TECHNOLOGICAL ALTERATION OF THE MODERN MIND by UCLA neuroscientist Gary Small. A synopsys of this book appears in NEWSWEEK October 20, 2008, page 16.

Have any of you read, A WHOLE NEW MIND by Daniel H.Pink? Comparable to Gardner but from a business world standpoint, that can easily be implemented in educational classroom structure.

Howard Gardner, will be at our school, his high school alma mater, at the end of this month to discuss FIVE MINDS FOR THE FUTURE, and it's implications for our teaching in the 21st. century. We feel very fortunate indeed....
