This can be an incredibly powerful tool if teachers understand the way it can impact the learning of each of their students. Online networking has changed in unbelievable ways in just the last 24 months! Until recently, I would say it referred to keeping in touch (via email, list serves, etc.). With social networking sites such as Classroom 2.0 and other ning sites, it now has leaped into the next phase. I hope that as you work with your teachers you bring them up to speed and keep them focused on how it can make a difference for the individual students they have in class, or the individual needs that they face as teachers. The age factor mentioned is real but that just means that it is more of a teacher tool than a student tool like it can be with older students. Good luck!
I believe the benefits are great! I wish all educators could have access to online networking!
