I just put a QR code on my classroom door to link to my web page. What are you doing with QR codes in your classrooms? Paula

They are like a bar code. Students scan the code and it leads them to a url, text, video etc.

Permalink Reply by Christopher Casal on November 10, 2011 at 7:19am Out of curiosity, do you have your webpage URL listed too?
Permalink Reply by Paula Rogers on November 10, 2011 at 8:08am Yes, I also listed the web page: http://www.ndreadon.com/langdon.htm
I also have the School District QR code posted. This weekend I made codes for messages and videos.
You Tube has many ideas for integration with QR Codes as well as Google Docs. Here is another link for ideas:http://livebinders.com/play/play/51894

Permalink Reply by Alice Chen on November 11, 2011 at 8:22am I use QR Codes when I want to direct my students to specific wepages. For example, I will set up different etherpads for different groups for collaboration, and I will give these groups their unique QR codes which will direct them to different pads. I use it for Soapbox, too, if I want different groups of students to join different discssions.

Permalink Reply by Alice Chen on November 15, 2011 at 1:50pm Here's a description from their website. It's got lots of great features.
"Teach more effectively. SoapBox is a controlled digital space, designed to improve student engagement by breaking down the barriers students face when deciding whether or not to participate in class, and gives teachers a concrete assessment of student comprehension, in real time."
If you like Soapbox, you might try Socrative, too (if you haven't already). www.socrative.com
Have fun!
I love the idea of QR Codes. The notion that they are essentially hyperlinks that we, in the physical world, can "click" on and be taken to content in the virtual world is fantastic. As an aspiring teacher, I would love to integrate QR codes into my future classroom. How else have you been using them? More importantly, how have your students responded to their use?
Permalink Reply by Paula Rogers on November 15, 2011 at 9:26pm I used http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ to create my QR Codes.
I have used that too. I made a QR code to put into a boyd's bear (stuffed animal like flat stanley) page which pointed to pertinent content. This way it didn't weigh the bag down. I paid to mail that bear and bag to the next classroom - saved me $ !

Permalink Reply by Christopher Casal on November 17, 2011 at 6:31am If you are a Google Chrome user you can get the goo.gl URL shortener extension. When it shortens a URL it also give you the option to create a QR code.
Pretty handy little extension that lives next to your address bar in the Chrome browser.
