Hi! I am a high school teacher in California. I teach U.S. History & Govt & Politics, and AP Govt/Politics. The AP Govt/Politics is a new class that I am preparing for this summer for the upcoming school year...any suggestions or materials that you can share. I am preparing a syllabus and writing the audit for AP at the moment. I would appreciate advice, shortcuts, words of wisdom ect...
I started the AP GoPo program in my former school district and have been an exam reader for four years. Some things that may help you...
-join the listserv for the course, which can be found on the AP Central website
-divide your class and content/time spent based on the percent of the exam dedicated to each unit. That way, when you start the year, you already have time allocated to each unit.
-Use practice exams/free response questions for your own exams and use the rubrics provided on the AP Central website to help you score.
-Help students write for the exam. Questions can be answered in bulleted, outlined, etc format. There is no need for a thesis or pages and upon pages on an essay.
Good luck to you! This was my absolute favorite class to teach!
Constance, how are things going with AP? I'm finding it tought to integrate technology projects like I do with my other classes. What kinds of things are you using?
