Tracey McCully, one of our authors, just wrote a great article on using Mobile Technology as a Strategy for RtI. In addition, she developed an evaluation rubric to assist in selecting mobile apps.

Thanks for sharing this!  My district has been using iPods and iPads in the classroom for about a year now and as an ITRT (Instructional Technology Resource Teacher) I am constantly evaluating apps and podcasts for classroom use.  Our district also promotes a "Featured App/Podcast" to the community via Edline bi-weekly.  The featured app/podcast is free and is meant to help students improve their study skills in the related content area.  As the head of this project, I communicate with my boss as to what app/podcast should be featured and he makes the final decision.  I have a running list of suggestions from my colleagues and I use this as part of the evaluation process.  The rubric included in this article will definitely be useful to me and my colleagues as we continue searching for classroom-worthy apps!
