No, I do not think the classics should be required reading in schools. First of all, any students who want to avoid reading the classics can buy the less-than-illustrious Cliff Notes and skip the experience. Secondly, I feel that students today do so little reading that they should be picking what interests them most for the reading choices. Suggest the classics - but do not REQUIRE them.
