I'm looking for a week long ESL activity based on geography that I can modify according to grade level. I teach 3, 4, 5, and 6. The children will need to collect information on the continent's/country's facts/demographics (I don't know which ones yet).
I think the 3rd & 4th graders will get continents, and 5th & 6th will get continents and countries.

I've been thinking of also having a class "Special Report" on Somalia. Where everyone in 5th & 6th grade needs to find some interesting fact or detail. If there are two students with the same data one will have to find something else out.

Lastly, I did this project last year using pop-up book tech to make it interesting but I think the children focused TOO much on the pop-up book portion and my unpreparedness left the results inadequate.

The materials that I'll use will be construction paper, foam board, and lots of permanent markers.
The pop-up book will still stand for 3rd & 4th graders but the 5th & 6th graders will need to do something else. Maybe a collage. Some of the countries I'm considering are:
Iceland, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Finland, Guatemala, The Netherlands (Dutch Antilles included), Angola, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Turkmenistan, and of course the special edition Somalia poster.
