Hi

I am currently working in a primary school (p-7) where I have noticed a extremely large and diverse range of skills and abilities with computers. Most recent was with a year 4 class writing a short story using Google docs & spreadsheets. A largest portion of the class were very competent and had the necessary skills to engage with the PC's and the program. However some students were unable to work as well or as quickly as needed (time is always a factor) due to their lack of basic computer literacy.

From this experience I believe it would be very useful for students to have extra time and space to enhance and increase their computer literacy. A computer club would benefit all the students and help them to engage with the computers more. My main idea is not to have a restrictive process of learning or have it necessarily seen as a learning support class. It would be a place where students could come to do different activities in the one space, complete assignments if they needed to, listen to tutorials, ask questions (peers and I), access resources and start new projects to practice new skills.

If you have had any experiences in this type of activity it would be great to hear from you. I am in the very early stages of thought and design (very, very early) so any suggestions, ideas and resources would be fantastic. I look forward to your feedback.

Regards

Alun
