Recently I've used several quick web tools for tasks on which people used to just apply their own brains and maybe a scratchpad for. For instance, I wanted to convert a GMT to eastern, and instead of just thinking, I used the
  • Time Zone Converter.
  • And yesterday for a high schooler I used the Date Duration Calculator. I used to often type "Time in Iraq" into the browser url field.
Of course the zip code directory, thesaurus, 2 dictionaries and an encyclopedia are all built into the search bar of my Firefox browser.

What other such quick tools do you teach or know of? Interest rates? Recipes? What should a kid not leave high school with being exposed to?

(If this has been covered before, point me there and i'll delete this).

I'm not sure about other search bars but the Google search bar functions as a calculator. For a list of other tips using the Google search bar see http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/features.html
