Jeanie: Law Instructor Publications has a couple of activity resourses for your Civics classes that will help you become an activity-oriented teacher. One, Potpourri Activities, which contains the following activities: 2 problem solving murder cases (one hour activity each) that illustrate how your class can solve problems together. A political spectrum activity, a propaganda-critical analysis activity, an ethical choices activity, a ..How to write a persuasive essay activity, a stock market activity, and two model, oral history interview activities. The Choices program has a several issue oriented units that can be downloaded. I have used this with ninth graders and they really enjoyed them Basically the students explore the issue from several angles--the unit culminates in a debate /public forum activity. There is a nominal fee for the materials.
