Why would George lie say that Benetha and George were having a "fine" time when Mama asked, but Benetha said that George is a "fool"?

George lied to mama because he wanted to make a good impression, even though he lied he wonted mama to see him as a respectful man.

I agree wit maria avila. George lied to Mama so he wouldnt leave a bad impression. Even though Benetha had already told Mama that he was just a fool.
