I m wanting to build a civil war battle scene simulation for the Edusim project and am wanting to make this thing as realistic as possible regarding troop formations, officer headquarters, locations, terain, etc. To get an idea how kids might navigate it there is a video here (little ones doing a project - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVFsxev-2sk ).... I am wanting to embed key event/locations that would lead instructors/students as the scene is navigated (exp. battle field name - geography of the location - unit sizes etc.)

If there are any Civil War experts in the group that would have teachable tips in this regard It would be fantastic to get your input.

Gettysburg's First Hours
and
The Battle of Gettysburg
are two animations I know. The first is one of the very oldest Flash animations; the second is done by the US Army web team.

Here is a site with lots of static maps: http://www.civilwarinteractive.com/MapsHome.htm
National Geographic lets you explore old maps.
You can check in at the US Army Heritage and Education Center.
Here's some on Antietam: http://aotw.org/maps.php?map_number=main
There's of course many, many more.

Or..you could order the Gettysburg battlefield tour guide, and use that as a script!
Best of luck!!
