I heard from some teachers who would love to participate in this project but Google Maps is blocked at their school. What about still making the postcards and placing them a different program like Flickr or VoiceThread. One of my main goals is to encourage collaboration between schools and using those programs would encourage commenting.

For example, besides the map, you can locate our postcards on Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/23575283@N04/ . Feel free to leave thoughtful comments - the kids would love it.
i'd love to participate (Adelaide, Australia) I will have a little play with a postcard myself and then get my class involved. Is there a start/end date to this project?
Postcard Project end date June 2009
Is the project still going on?
i have worked out how to do the placemarker etc, I have got a flickr account and uploaded a photo to the flickr account but when I click on the share this bit, I don't get the emdbed code option like in your example picture!! Is yours a flickr pro account? Help please!
Yes I have a pro account but I don't think that matters. I looked on the Flickr FAQ and saw one post that stated you must be logged into your account to see the embed code. Also you must click on the photo and see it in the full view to see the SHARE button - not the mini views when you first log on.
hi colette, I hadn't made my pics public, that's why I couldnt see the code - the people on flickr forum helped me! I will try and upload my own test postcard tonight :)
I really like this project! My fourth grade class here in Beaufort, South Carolina will enjoy making postcards
showing the geography and scenic views here. I am hoping Google Maps is not blocked at my school.
