Library Thing is a great site for book lovers to come together in a social network environment. You can catalog your own library, chat about books, make connections with others. Could you imagine your classroom library organized for students to browse the titles and chat about what they read. I thought this group in Classroom 2.0 would enjoy this one!
If you go to http://www.librarything.com
You can check out what I am reading by searching username techteachers, then select catalog.

Meg,
Are there book-loving youngsters who might find one another more readily in social networks in cyberspace than in their school hallways? Sometimes these are the kids who are unappreciated by their classmates. A student version of Library Thing might be a great way for them to affirm in one another their love of reading and to introduce one another to good reads. (I signed onto Library Thing and will start a private catalog of my books to start with, then later will share it. It's seems a perfect way for adults who happen to be book lovers to meet and communicate their interests and finds with one another.)
Thanks,
Skip
Skip I agree! Maybe we can reach those readers and engage them with others around the globe. This really hits Classroom 2.0 as we allow even the youngest children to be experts. I see so many possibilities, forget the old book reports, engage them. Think about the reluctant readers, and finding a guide to help them pick out their next book. When you catalog your books, it will be interesting to hear more of your thoughts. I like the cover view to look at the books.
Meg,
Your inclusion of "reluctant" readers as possible benefactors is a good point, which I overlooked initially. What other kids are doing (participating in a book-lovers social network) and saying ("I read a great story about...") has more appeal most often than any parent's or teacher's assignment. Going from reluctance to engagement once a kid is spurred by another seems to go forward on its own. Reading, as all readers know, is something that is hard to shake off once it bites you!
