I was in a meeting today where I was trying to persuade an academic that using Facebook would be a useful addition as an effective communication tool. The academic had never seen Facebook but decided that as it was not a 'university' system that it could not be used without huge risk. At our University we have a system which has a groups function, but the students don't like it and they are already using Facebook effectively.

If anyone has any examples of using Facebook within their institution to aid communication and discussion would you mind letting me know?

Many thanks :)

Hi Fiona. I'm on hiatus from the classroom because I have been building Courses on Facebook with a team in San Francisco.

Here's an article not by me of interest http://periphery.wordpress.com/2007/12/28/how-facebook-changes-the-...

Here's one by me http://www.edumorphology.com/?p=10
