'Tis the season for butterfly rearing and I'm looking for grade 1 or 2 classes who would like to talk to kids in Eugene, OR about their experiences raising butterflies. I imagine a simple Skype video call would do the job, can help you if you are new to Skype.

Hi Jane,
I just joined classroom 2.0 but I am very interested in sharing with you. We have caterpillars and they are getting big. I think they will make their silk button soon. We are a grade 2 class on the south shore of Montreal, QC.
My classroom blog is
teacher102.edublogs.org
Mary Ellen, what's your time zone in Montreal? What fun to talk with folks from another country. My skype name is jkrauss1989.
Hi Jane,
Our Time zone is Eastern Standard- 3 hours earlier than you in Oregon. I have skype on my new macbook pro and can video conference. I haven't done that with a class though. One of my students chatted with skype to his Dad in Saskatchewan the other day from the classroom. How would we do it with a whole classroom? Would a projector help? Or what about attaching a video camera so that the whole class could be in the picture? As you can tell I am very new to this. Gosh I don't even know my skype address but I will search for you. I think I'm me.mac. I found you and added you to my contacts.
You got it Mary Ellen. Hook the computer to a projector and we can see each other's classes. If you have a little Web cam you can use to point toward that class that would be great, otherwise the isight camera in your macbook should suffice. Let's practice. Look for me on skype.
Mary Ellen, what kind of butterflies are you rearing? We are talking about getting together next week, let me know what works for you W/Th/F. My skype acct is jkrauss1989. Jane
One of the classes I work with raised butterflies - have a look at their blog (Class 1o Reads and Writes!) to see the story. I've send your post on to their classroom teacher. Time difference would rule out skype, but maybe we can do audio some how.
Hi Kathy,
I'd like to look at the blog but don't know how to find it. I see that you wrote class 10 reads and writes but how do I find that blog?
Sorry - I thought I made it a link to the site. The address is http://cdnpypl1o.blogspot.com/
Thanks so much, Kathy. I will look more closely at it later but I am excited to get your link. I created my very first classroom blog in April. Still have a lot to learn but checking out other classroom blogs gives me ideas. Getting ready for the kids to come in now. Bye.
Hi Kathy,
I love your classroom blog and have questions for you. I am using edublogs but don't think I can add my class like you did. Can you help me? My email address is me.mac@mac.com. Where are you?
There are four first grade classes here in Sharon, Massachusetts who are currently raising Painted Lady butterflies. I'm sure that one of them would love to participate in this venture! In fact one class just came into the computer lab today to draw the Life Cycle of the butterfly in KidPix. I, the Instructional Technology Specialist, am new to Skype. I have an account, but have not used it yet so your guidance would be greatly appreciated. Can I use the built in camera on my MacBook as a webcam?
ABsolutely you can use the iSight camera as a Web cam.
Let's talk via skype-- that will be good practice for you. My account is jkrauss1989-- why don't you add me as a contact and let's talk tomorrow. I have the day pretty open, let me know when you'd like to chat.
