Under Pressure: "Your kid doesn't know how to read, yet?"

Hello, everybody

My Prep kids (5-6) years old, are dealing with the classic issue at the moment. They will graduate from Kindergarten in June, and will enter Grade 1 in early August.

There are parents who think that it would help that if their kids know how to read now, but of course we always find those who need more assistance. The teachers are trying to convince the parents that every child learns in their own way, at different levels, different speed.

I have to admit, that it makes me feel sad when I hear a mother says, "You kid doesn't know how to read yet?" And I feel like these days the standards are getting higher, kids are expected to read at much younger age than ever....

So if you have inputs or suggestions to help me to convince the parents that their kids are doing just fine, that they are still learning, please post your ideas.

Thank you :)
