I encourage you visit http://tutormentor.blogspot.com and see how I support the growth of volunteer-based tutoring/mentoring programs in the Chicago region.

The links on this blog go to other pages that support this stratgegy, including a database of tutor/mentor programs and an extensive library of links to on-line resources.

I would like to see colleges adopt service categories, as long-term project with student leadership and involvement. They could pilot this working with the Tutor/Mentor Connection, but could adopt any cause in any part of the world.

The key is to create an online information base and web community at the college, manned by the students, and used by the students and alumni in the years after they finish college. Taking on the intermediary role enables you to build upon year to year service, and teach ways to use web 2.0 in on-going problem solving.

Daniel,

Thank you for your reply. This is exactly what we are trying to do. We want to help make the connection between students and community. We feel like using Web 2.0 tools will help us do just that. Seeing examples such as yours will help us prepare and create our own information base and web community in our local area. Thank you for taking the time to share with us.
