I would like to find out what others who are using the ASUS mini laptops think of them. My school is purchasing a classroom set for each Middle School team for next year. To prepare for the transition I have been piloting 5 of the laptops in my class this spring and I have run into some problems recently. I think most of the problems are infrastructure issues, but I would like to know what other teachers think of them (good and/or bad).

Hi Dan,

Does the 5th grade class have 900's or 901s?

Does ASUS offer service contracts on the 30 ASUS EeePCs? If so, what is the annual fee per unit? What is the repair or exchange turn around time?
Have any of the units hit the floor?
Do students take their netbooks home?
Can "simple" repairs like replacing keyboard keys be made to the EeePCs on site?
What firewall is used for the netbooks?
How is student data backed up?
Are there extra EeePCs available if a netbook does not…

-Jack Has anyone implemented using a subnotebook computer in their school district?tag:www.classroom20.com,2008-05-19:649749:Comment:1430932008-05-19T08:46:46.918ZJoanne Arvayhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/JoanneArvay
I purchased an Asus eee PC. At a monthly meeting of a tech group my school district has joined, someone passed around a Classmate PC notebook from Intel. With its built in handle, it reminded me of Apple's ClamShell which is what we are currently still using in most of our elementary schools. It looked much more rugged than the Asus. They mentioned that it cost around $500 which was around $150 more than what we paid for the Asus Surf model. I did have a problem getting WPA wireless to work,…

I did have a problem getting WPA wireless to work, but was able to resolve that issue by downloading an update. I brought home an Asus this weekend with Linux this weekend from my campus for my kiddos to play around with, and they LOVED it....they actually liked it better than my Macbook.

We recently purchased a few of these to test out in our district. I took a moment to write up my initial experiences here:

http://www.pcs-tech.net.

I'm curious, is there anyone else on the Classroom2.0 that's using them? If so, in what capacity? Are any of you using them in a school environment with teachers or students? I'd welcome any thoughts/inputs.
We are attempting to buy £20,000 worth of them for schools in our Local Authority. They are wonderful little machines and have blown the roof off the mobile computing market. The issue we have with them here in the UK is that RM are re-branding them as the RM Minibook (even though it is EXACTLY the same product - even still comes in an Asus box) and they are the only people who can supply them - at an inflated price. Very, very frustrating and shame on Asus for allowing this to happen.

I have been blogging about it here - this will be updated more frequently once our pilot projects start. A Note Taking Softwaretag:www.classroom20.com,2008-05-05:649749:Topic:1384482008-05-05T15:34:39.088ZMinda Pengellyhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/MindaPengelly
I am looking for a good note taking program to replace Microsoft One Note. I love One Note and use it all the time. I just got the Asus EeePC and it runs on Linux. I want a note taking program that will work on it. In searching the internet I found one called Basket Note Pads that sounds promising, but can't seem to get the download to work. It is a .gz file that my computer doesn't know what to do with. Has anyone used Basket Notes? Is there a program out…
