Was just asked by a principal to come up with a 65 minute training that incorporated SMART Notebook 10 tools, Edmodo, and use of a wireless mouse in the classroom. This is the kind of innovative, hodge-podge training that gives teachers a taste of different tools, application ideas, and exposure but does not burn them out or make them think "this is just another thing to do." Teachers were very receptive to the structure of the training (15 minutes on educational applications of Edmodo (what you can do/how are you using it now?), 40 minutes of SMART Notebook tools (show 5 tools - here's how they work/here's when you would use them in your lesson), and 10 minutes of wireless mouse instruction (here's how to make it work/here's how you can implement it). When doing "staff cuts" in a private school, should a school principal decide to keep teachers with 30 + years working at school but with not interest in joining the 21st C education that the school brags about, or should he or she keep a newer (5 years working at school) but experienced teacher who is also immersed in 21st Century education?
What would you do if you were that school principal?

Fellow Classroom 2.0 Colleagues,

A post was submitted by a member of the community expressing frustration with not having working computers. Here is what was said:
The problem in my school is that the technology is not always working and not every room has the same amount of technology equipment. The first step is to make sure that there is an equipment standard. Once all the necessary equipment is in the room, then implement your program.

As we really discuss Web 2.0 and all the potentials of it, I know that there are still concerns about the fundamental challenges when infusing technology into the classroom and they are as followed:
•working computers
•unwilling teachers
•unclear visions of the role of technology
•finding time
•lack of resources
•lack of funds
•lack of support
I can go on. But I won't ;-)

One question that will lead to much discussions (I hope). What are you doing in your district or just you to address the above concerns?

Please share your strategies.
OK folks, this is my first discussion starter here on classroom 2.0. But I need your help....
I have a question for you all. In two days I have to run some teacher training/professional development at my school for my faculty [6 hours worth in total]. It comes at the end of our two week vacation here in Australia, so I need it to be incredibly relevant and motivational for the teachers involved.
It comes at the end of our two week vacation here in Australia, so I need it to be incredibly relevant and motivational for the teachers involved.

The subject I have chosen is: "Classroom 2.0 - how can we change our teaching practice to reflect the new priorities and best practice in education?"

Since I have been consuming so much of classroom 2.0 and similar philosophical and paradigm shifting material, such as reading wikinomics (great book), enjoying NECC and edubloggercon podcasts, reading blogs, etc etc, ..... I figure I should practice what I now preach.

So, what does Classroom 2.0 pundits say my training should look like? How do you do "Teacher Training 2.0"?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Clarifying questions welcome also.

Cheers,
